The Covid-19 Pandemic has created enormous disrution and uncertainty for competitors and event organisers alike. At Running Events, we have developed the following policies to be as fair as possible to all participants, whilst ensuring the integrity of our business. We encourage all participants to review these policies prior to registering to ensure you are comfortable with them.

Important! To be fair to all participants, we will not deviate in any way from the policies as stated below. Per the terms of our event waiver – and the specific “No Refunds” question which all online registrants must answer in the affirmative to since May 2020, we will not issue cash refunds under any circumstances.

POSTPONEMENT & CANCELLATION INFORMATION

In some exceptional circumstances, it may be that we cannot hold an event on it’s original date. When this happens, our first option is to postpone the event to an alternative date. In only the most extreme and difficult circumstances will we elect to cancel the in-person event entirely and convert it to a “virtual” event.

Please see detailed information below on your options for each of these scenarios.

Postponement

Where the original event has been postponed to a new date, those who hold a registration to the event at the time of postponement have the following options:

  1. Race on the New Date (the default/”do nothing” option)
You do not need to take any action to exercise this option. Your original registration is automatically valid for the new date. All you need to do is turn up in the right place at the right time and you are good to go. It doesn’t matter that your e-ticket, race number or phone reminder are all still pointing to the original race date. The new date will be on the front page of the web site and published on our Facebook page.
  2. Switch to the Virtual Run – All entrants who transfer to the Virtual Run of a postponed event will be receive a voucher to the value of 50% of the original entry fee paid. This voucher can be used for any future Running Events registration fee (valid for one year from the date of issue). Furthermore, everyone who records a valid finish time in the virtual run will have their finisher medal couriered out to them at our expense.  That’s our way of saying “thanks!” for sticking with us during this difficult time. Please see the event Info page for more specific details on the Virtual Run should this option apply.
Detailed information on the virtual run can be found in the VIRTUAL RUN INFORMATION page.
Important! Discount codes will be emailed out to all eligible participants 8-10 days after the end of the virtual run.
  3. Transfer to Another Event – If you can’t make it to the rescheduled event – and prefer not to take the virtual option – then we offer a “virtually” free transfer – on a like-for-like basis – to another of our events.
    • In the case of the Auckland Half Marathon Series, this means any other AHMS event (Devonport, Omaha, Coatesville, Maraetai or Waterfront Half Marathons) that is scheduled in the next 12 months (including the next edition of the event being postponed). Important! An additional fee may be required to transfer into the Waterfront Half Marathon to reflect the higher registration fees for that event.
    • In the case of the North Shore Run Series, this means any other NSRS event (Run Orewa, Run the Point, Run Devonport, Run Albany) that is scheduled in the next 12 months (including the next edition of the event being postponed).

Transferring must be completed by Midnight the Friday before the scheduled event date. A nominal $3 transfer fee is changed to help us offset (it does not cover them completely) administration costs already incurred on your behalf (e.g. race number printing, timing tags, postage costs, finisher medals, etc). Please see the event Info page for more specific details on the event transfer terms and conditions should this option apply.

Cancellation

Once all other suitable alternative dates have been exhausted, we may, reluctantly, elect to cancel the in-person event and convert to a “virtual only” event. In this case, the following options are available for each registration held at the time of cancellation:

  1. Take on the Virtual Challenge (the default/”do nothing” option)
Where the in-person event has been cancelled, the existing races (all distances) will be converted to a “Competitive Virtual” race. There will also be a “Fun Virtual” option for each distance. The Competitive Virtual option will have more stringent rules around the Strava workouts to be used to validate your run and this section will be eligible for merit awards. The Fun Virtual option is easier to qualify a time for.
All entrants registered for either Virtual Run of a cancelled event will be receive a voucher to the value of 50% of the original entry fee paid. This voucher can be used for any future Running Events registration fee (valid for one year from the date of issue). Furthermore, everyone who records a valid finish time in either virtual run – which can be done up to 7 days after the event actually takes place – will have their finisher medal couriered out to them at our expense.  That’s our way of saying “thanks!” for sticking with us during this difficult time.
Detailed information on the virtual run can be found in the VIRTUAL RUN INFORMATION page.
Important! Discount codes will be emailed out to all eligible participants 8-10 days after the end of the virtual run.
  2. Transfer to Another Event – If you prefer not to take on the virtual run, we offer a “virtually” free transfer – on a like-for-like basis – to another of our events.

Transferring must be completed by Midnight on the day that falls 7 days after the announcement of the cancellation OR by Midnight on the day the cancelled event was finally scheduled to take place WHICHEVER IS THE LATER.
